This weekend, we returned to the picturesque Blakewell Trout Fishery so Tania could take part in a 4-hour fly fishing lesson. The session was delivered by Richard, the owner, whose deep knowledge and calm, encouraging teaching style made it a fantastic learning experience. The lesson covered everything from fly selection and knots to casting techniques, giving Tania a solid foundation to build on.

A special highlight of the weekend was Tania christening her new rod outfit—a 9ft 5# setup from Finner, paired with a Finner floating line. It handled beautifully and gave her plenty of confidence as she put her new skills to the test.

We made the most of the weekend, staying on to fish the lake for two days. The weather was mostly overcast, with a mix of drizzle and the occasional burst of sunshine, creating classic fly fishing conditions.

Our efforts paid off with three beautiful rainbow trout, each weighing between 2.5 and 3 lbs. The combination of new gear, new skills, and great company made the catches even more satisfying.

Blakewell remains one of our favorite fisheries—ideal for both newcomers and seasoned anglers alike, with a peaceful atmosphere and expert guidance always close at hand.
