Our Home on Wheels: The Abbey Spectrum 535
Welcome to our very first behind-the-scenes look at our setup! We’re excited to take you inside our trusty home on the road — the Abbey Spectrum 535 — a solid and stylish touring caravan that’s just right for our fly fishing and caravanning adventures.
Why We Chose the Abbey Spectrum 535
After looking at several options, we landed on the Spectrum 535 because it strikes the perfect balance between comfort, layout, and towability. For us — a couple who loves to escape once a month to fish and roam — this model offers everything we need without feeling bulky or overcomplicated.
Here’s what sold us:
Spacious interior with a great comfy front lounge with plenty of space to rest those tired legs after a good day by the water
Mid-washroom layout, giving a bit of privacy and convenience
Well-equipped kitchen: perfect for morning coffee and riverside meals
Fixed island bed to the rear with plenty of storage

Living Comfortably Off the Grid
We’ve made a few tweaks to help us stay self-sufficient while off-grid:
Solar panel kit to keep batteries topped up
Upgraded leisure battery for longer wild stops
Inverter for those 230v items you can't just do without.
LED lighting and thermal blinds for cozy nights after long days on the water
How It Tows and Travels
The 535 tows beautifully behind our Volvo XC60, even on winding back roads. It’s stable and responsive — ideal for heading to some of the more tucked-away river spots we love.
We’ve found it easy to maneuver onto pitches, and despite being a full-size tourer, it never feels intimidating.
Ready for the Road
The Abbey Spectrum 535 is more than just a caravan — it’s our base camp, our quiet retreat after a day by the water, and our weekend escape pod. Whether we’re wild camping by a loch or pitching up at a quiet CL site near a trout lake or stream, it’s been the perfect match for our lifestyle.
